PLYMOUTH Argyle Ladies return to league action on Sunday with a difficult trip to high-flying Coventry United, who are the only unbeaten team in the FA Women’s National Southern Premier Division.
Argyle are looking to get back to winning ways in the league after losing their last two match. However, they did beat Marine Academy Plymouth last week in the Devon Senior Cup, which should have given them some confidence.
The Pilgrims’ management team of Dave Leonard and Trevor Rodd have faced tough decisions over team selection as, apart from a long-term injury to striker Natasha Knapman, they have a fully fit squad.
As they can only take 14 players it means that teenage midfielder Faye Ivall and new signing American Rachel Heron revert to the development team, who travel to Exeter & Tedburn Rangers.
Kayley Lane has trained this week after suffering a niggling knee problem which saw her step down from last week’s starting line up. Also in the squad is midfielder Becky Dandridge, who suffered a knock against Marine Academy.
Greek under-20 international Panagiota Papaioannou keeps her place in the squad after celebrating her call up to the first team last week by scoring on her début against Marine Academy.
The decision to play Ivall and Heron in the development team is to give them game-time.
Argyle squad: Lindsay Rogers, Darcey Hepworth, Panagiota Papaioannou, Becca Wakley, Katie Middleton, Helen Bleazard, Jessica Jones, Zoe Cunningham, Becky Dandridge, Amber Pollock, Steph Beck, Mollie Taylor, Ebony Dover, Kayley Lane.
Plymouth Argyle’s development team go into Sunday’s South West League Western Division match at Exeter & Tedburn Rangers hoping for a massive improvement on last week’s performance in their 2-2 with Penn Mill.
Their numbers have been bolstered by the return of Ivall into the squad and USA signing Heron. With players returning from injury, the squad is looking a lot healthier than it did a month ago. Argyle beat Exeter 2-0 a month ago and will look to complete the double.
