Tamar Trotters’ Wilsmore claims bronze at Manchester International Meet

TAMAR Trotters’ Mike Wilsmore finished third in the 1,500m at the Manchester International Meet on Wednesday evening.

Wilsmore was running for the BAL/UKWL representative team in the meeting where they were up against England, Great Britain Juniors, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and Iceland.

In quite a tactical race, Wilsmore clocked 3:47.76. Scotland’s Sol Sweeney won in 3:45.88, with James Gormley second in 3:46.94.

Wilsmore has enjoyed a great season on the track, setting new personal bests at both 800 and 1,500m this summer.

He has competed at a number of international events, including at the European Classic Meet at Heusden-Zolder in Belgium where he clocked a new 1,500m best of 3:40.42 last month.

Meanwhile, Wilsmore’s Tamar Trotters’ team-mate Bex Ezra and Tavistock Run Project’s Jordan Andrews enjoyed success at the Roseland August Trail (RAT) races at the weekend.

Ezra was first women in the Red Rat race, which is 20 miles on the coastal path. She clocked 3:13.49 to finish fourth overall. East Cornwall’s Marc Smerdon was first home in 2:47.35, with Mud Crew’s James Lee Brydon second in 3:00.34.

There are four different RAT races – White (11 miles), Red (20 miles), Black Rat (32 miles) and The Plague (64 miles).

Andrews took victory in the Black Rat coming home in an impressive time for the tough course of 4:42.31. He finished five minutes ahead of anyone else. Cornwall’s Amy Sole was first women in that race.

East Cornwall’s Doug Stacey won the White Rat in 1:28.51, while Mud Crew’s Paul Maskell took victory in The Plague in a time of 11:34.26.
