Plymouth athletes King and Wilsmore impress at overseas meets

PLYMOUTH athletes David King and Mike Wilsmore both enjoyed good runs overseas this week.

Great Britain international King set a season’s best time of 13.68 seconds to finish fourth in the 110m hurdles at the IAAF World Challenge Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland.

The race was won by Russia’s Sergey Shubenkov in 13.18, with Hungary’s Balazs Baji second in 13.53 and France’s Pascal Martinot-Lagarde third in 13.60.

Meanwhile, Tamar Trotters’ Wilsmore set a new 1,500m personal best at the Memorial Leon Buyle Meet in Oordegem, Belgium.

Wilsmore finished second in an impressive time of 3:40.92, which puts him in the top 10 for the UK rankings and was two-and-a-half seconds faster than he had previously run outdoors.

The race was won by Holland’s Valentijn Weinans in 3:40.34.
