Judo stars head to Germany with national squad

TALENTED judo stars Lewis Widdicombe and Max Gregory will head to Germany this weekend with the England squad.

Ivybridge Community College pupil Widdicombe, 17, has been selected to compete at the Berlin European Judo Cup, which takes place on Friday and Saturday, before joining in a two-day national training camp.

He is one of 15 England juniors who will compete in Berlin. He will fight in the under-90kg category.

Plymstock School pupil Gregory is unable to compete in the cup competition as he is still a cadet, but will join the England team for the high-level training camp.

Both are members of South Brent Judo Club and as well as being part of the national squad they are also on the AASE programme which they combine with their studies.
