Fannon and Proud named in GB squad to compete at Sette Colli Meet in Italy

PLYMOUTH Leander swimmers Tom Fannon and Ben Proud will continue their build-up for the European Championships by competing for Great Britain at next week’s Sette Colli meeting in Italy.

The pair are part of a 39-strong British team that will head to Rome’s Stadio del Nuoto for the event, which starts on June 29.

British team leader Chris Spice said: “Sette Colli is a fantastic event that gives our swimmers another opportunity to perform on an international stage prior to our benchmark meet of the year.

“This meet is a key part of our national race strategy and the timing allows our athletes to practice their race processes before they begin their final preparations into the Europeans.”

Fannon has recently competed at the Mare Nostrum events in Barcelona and Monte Carlo, alongside Plymouth Leander team-mates Laura Stephens, Freddy Clampett, Roman Scherer and Ivo Staub.

The European Championships will be held in Glasgow at the start of August.

Meanwhile, Leander’s Duru Tanir has been named in the Turkey squad for the European Junior Championships in Helsinki next month.

The Plymouth College pupil is set to compete in the 50m and 100m butterfly competitions.
