CITY of Plymouth’s Jonathan Edwards opened his season by winning three events at the first Southern Athletics League Division Two West meeting of the summer.
Edwards took full points for the combined City of Plymouth, Erme Valley Harriers and Tavistock AC team in the shot, discus and hammer at Walton on Saturday.
The Wales international threw 14.28m in the shot, 45.07m in the discus and 56.73m in the hammer, while also throwing 33.64m in the javelin.
Youngsters Emily Bee and Molly Mather also picked up impressive wins in the league meeting.
Under-17 athlete Bee took victory in the senior women’s high jump with 1.60m. She also won the long jump with a season’s best 5.40m and took second in the 200m with another season best performance of 25.8 seconds.
Under-20 competitor Mather set a new PB to win the 400m hurdles in 65.7 seconds. She also won the 100m hurdles in 17.2 seconds.
Tavistock’s Joely Bytheway won the women’s B 400m hurdles in 69.4 seconds, which would have taken second in the A race.
Plymouth’s Matt Bradley took honours in the 2,000m steeplechase in 7:08.8 minutes, while Hayley Harvey grabbed a narrow victory in the women’s 800m in a time of 2:23.00.
There were PB’s for under-17 City of Plymouth sprinter Leo Shipley in the men’s 100m (11.7) and 200m (24.3) and for team-mate Aaron Miller in the 100m (11.6), while under-20 Tavistock hammer thrower Charlie Shipton set a new PB of 33.61m.
The combined Plymouth, Erme Valley and Tavistock team were missing a number of athletes and could only finish fourth on the day behind Radley, Walton and Kingston & Polytechnic Harriers.
They will be hoping to be stronger for the next meeting which will be at Bournemouth on May 20.
