Encouraging display for judo star Gregory at Cadet European Cup in Zagreb

PLYMSTOCK School judo star Max Gregory enjoyed an encouraging international outing for England at the Cadet European Cup in Zagreb.

The South Brent Judo Club member was one of just 10 athletes selected to represent England at the competition and training camp, which ran over four days.

Gregory fought in the highly-competitive U90kg category, where he finished with two wins and a loss in his first Cadet European Cup. He won his second contest by an ippon before narrowly losing to the number one seed in his group.

The teenager will also represent England at the forthcoming Bremen Euro Cup in Germany, where he will be joined by his South Brent Judo Club team-mate Lewis Widdicombe.

Ivybridge Community College pupil Widdicombe will compete in the U81kg junior category at the Bremen Cup, which attracts many of the world’s top judo stars.

Widdicombe and Gregory have a busy spell coming up. Gergory will also compete at Berlin Euro Cadet Cup and Widdicombe will fight at next month’s Junior Euro Cup in Italy.
