Daley and Goodfellow claim synchro bronze medal at World Series in Beijing

TOM DALEY kicked off his 2018 season by winning a synchro bronze medal with Dan Goodfellow at the opening FINA World Series in Beijing.

The pair’s medal came on the first day of the competition, which is held in the Water Cube where Daley made his Olympic debut as a 14-year-old.

It did look like the British pair were going to win the silver medal in China. They were in second place for the whole event, but fail to nail their final dive, which dropped them down a spot, with the Ukrainian pair of Maksym Dolgov and Oleksandr Gorshkovozov overtaking them.

China’s Aisen Chen and Hao Yang were the runaway winners with 484.29 points. Dolgov and Gorshkovozov scored 417.93, with Daley and Goodfellow claiming 400.68 points.

World platform champion Daley will compete in the mixed three-metre synchro event with Grace Reid on Saturday and the individual event on Sunday.
