PLYMOUTH student Daniel Watling was first home in February’s Armada Winter 3k Series run at Central Park on Wednesday night.
Birchfield Harrier Watling, who was a talented junior race walker, had won December’s event and finished runner-up in October and November, but he was much quicker this time around.
Watling clocked 9.52 minutes for the course around Central Park. That was 32 seconds quicker than he had run to win in December and was also the first time he had clocked under 10 minutes in eight attempts.
Second home was Royal Navy runner Bart Thomas, who clocked 10.19, with Jordan Fox third in 10.45, Ben Austin fourth in 10.49 and Chris Chapman fifth in 11.01.
There was a good run by 11-year-old City of Plymouth athlete Jed Hutchings, who came eighth in 11.32 minutes.
Plymouth Harriers’ Ami Yetton was first women. She finished in 11.55 minutes.
Her club team-mate Jane Allison was second in 12.24, with Tamar Trotters’ Phoebe Frost third in 13.14 minutes.
Numbers were down with the run falling on Valentine’s Day.
The final event of the series will take place on Wednesday, March 14.
