IT was third time lucky for Plymouth University student Dan Watling in the 2017/18 Armada Winter 3k Series.
Having finished as runner-up in October and November, Watling managed to come home first in December’s run around Central Park which took place on Wednesday night.
In horrible weather conditions, the Birchfield Harrier clocked 10 minutes and 24 seconds.
Behind him, Tavistock athletes Bradley Stevens and Michael Barton enjoyed a great battle for second. They were both given the same time of 10.40 minutes, but Stevens just crossed the line first for runners-up spot.
Fourth athlete home was Jordan Fox in 11.12 minutes, with Erme Valley Harriers’ Liam Hallows fifth in 11.20.
Tavistock teenager Tilly McDowell was first female home. She clocked 12.15 minutes to finish ahead of Plymouth Harriers’ Jane Allison, who was second in 12.27. Third female was Erme Valley youngster Olivia Travers in 13.18.
December’s run had a Christmas theme and all finishers were rewarded with a mince pie.
Some 113 runners brave the poor weather and finished the run.
