TAVISTOCK’S Ben Pitts and Nicolas Maczugowski and City of Plymouth’s Mali Heard all claimed South West junior indoor titles at the weekend.
There was also a silver medal for Tavistock’s Luke Cressey at the event held in Cardiff as part of the Welsh Athletics Junior Open and Regional Championships.
Maczugowski returned home with two gold medals and a silver in the boy’s under-13 category.
He took victory in the South West 200m in a time of 29.36 seconds and also the shot with a throw of 5.74m, while he came second in the high jump with 1.30m.
Heard also won two golds. Her regional titles came in the under-13 girls’ 200m and long jump events. She ran 28.91 seconds for the 200m and leaped 3.94m in the long jump.
Pitts showed his impressive sprinting speed in the under-15 boys’ 200m, clocking a PB time of 24.37 seconds to take victory.
Club colleague Cressey’s silver came in the under-17 high jump where he leaped 1.75m.
City of Plymouth’s Caitlyn Price also ran in the under-17 girls’ 200m where she clocked 29.55 seconds.
The South West Indoor Championships take place over a number of meetings in Cardiff. The next competition will be on January 6. That again will be for under-13s, under-15 and under-17s and will feature 60m, 60m hurdles, 800m, 1,500m, pole vault, shot putt and long jump. Entries are limited and close on December 15.
