Plymouth Triathlon Club trio claim top 20 finishes at European Duathlon Championships in Spain

THREE Plymouth Triathlon Club athletes claimed top 20 finishes at the ETU European Age Group Sprint Duathlon Championships in Spain.

Fin Saunders finished 10th in the men’s 35-39 age group in Soria, despite having felt under the weather during the week.

It was the latest in a long line of top 10 international finishes for Saunders.

He was fourth Brit in his category, clocking a time of 1:05.34. He completed the opening run in 17.17 minutes, then recorded 36.44 minutes for the bike ride and 9.22 minutes for the final run.

Just 30 seconds separated sixth from 10th in that age group.

Fellow Plymouth Tri Club athlete Nicola Noble finished 11th in the women’s 30-34 age group.

Noble has just moved up to that category and was pleased with her result, having been focusing on longer distances recently.

The 30-34 age group is a really strong one for Great Britain and they filled 10 of the top 13 places in Soria.

Noble clocked an overall time of 1:21.59, with a 22.37 opening run, a 45.10 bike ride and then 11.41 final run.

Meanwhile, Scott Worthing took 17th spot in the men’s 20-24 age group.

He clocked 1:10.05, with a 19.41 run, a 37.21 bike ride and a 10.39 final run.
