ERME Valley Harriers’ Nathan Brown claimed victory in the 800m at the BMC regional event at Exeter Arena on Tuesday night.
Brown, still an under-20 athlete, clocked 1:58.44 to win the senior men’s race ahead of Exeter University’s Zack Nolan.
His Erme Valley team-mate Liam Hallows won the B race in 2:14.84, while Tavistock under-15 athlete Oliver Woodmason clocked 2:21.91.
In the women’s section, Tavistock’s Jenny Milburn, who is under-17, ran 2:24.85, while Erme Valley’s under-15 runner Olivia Travers finished in 2:34.67.
Tavistock’s Natasha Farrington was less than 0.5 of a second off her PB in the 1,500m race, clocking 4:58.98 to finish third under-17.
In the men’s 1,500m, Plymouth Harriers’ John Cooper ran 4:34.13, Tavistock’s over-60 veteran Allan Herdman clocked 5:11.75, while his team-mate and over-70 runner Bob Chapman finished in 6:17.45.
There were also plenty of good performances from the region’s athletes at the Devon Open meeting at Braunton.
Tavistock’s Edward Fileman, competing in the under-15 age group, showed his impressive form in the throwing event by setting a new PB in the discus of 24.36m, which puts him in the UK’s top 45. He also threw 40.05m in his favourite hammer event, which was just below e his PB of 41.67m which sees him ranked seventh in the UK.
Club team-mate Harry Tomlin, also under-15, won the javelin with a personal best throw of 32.55m, which puts him inside the UK’s current top 40.
Erme Valley Harriers’ Bronwyn Harris set three new PBs to claim three wins at Braunton.
She triumphed in the girls’ under-15 high jump with 1.47m, the shot with 8.08m and the discus with 17.03m.
City of Plymouth’s Poppy Northcott continued her fine form by winning the under-11 girls’ 75m in 11.74 seconds and also triumphing in the long jump with 3.73m and the 600m in 1:58.28.
Rosie Northcott was second in the 75m with 12.04 seconds, second in the long jump with 3.31m and fourth in the 600m in 2:02.31.
Tavistock’s Joe Wheeler claimed victory in the under-13 boys’ 150m in 21.24 seconds, while team-mate Ben Pitts triumphed in the under-15 300m in 42.07 seconds, which was a PB.
There was also PBs for fellow Tavistock athletes Joe Dix, Amelia Riggot and William Russell.
Dix set his in the under-15 boys’ 800m, clocking 2:22.39 to win.
Riggot’s came on her way to victory in the under-13 girls’ 1,200m. She ran 4:05.17 to finish 15 seconds ahead of her nearest rival.
Russell set his PB in the under-13 boys’ 1,500m. He clocked 5:00.48 to take victory.
Erme Valley Harriers’ Brown also competed at Braunton, finishing second in the 200m and 400m.
He clocked 23.86 seconds in the 200m and set a new 400m PB of 51.42 seconds.
The next Devon Open event will take place at Tavistock on June 11.
