PLYMOUTH College’s Georgina Mitchell continued her fine start to 2017 by winning the third Pentathlon GB National Youth Ranking Competition of the year on Sunday.
The under-17 event was run as a modern triathlon (swimming, shooting and running) and Mitchell was joined on the podium by her school team-mate Annabel Denton, who claimed third place.
Mitchell scored 753 points, with Saint Felix School’s Kamie Lowe second on 741 and Denton finishing with 731.
The event opened with a 200m swim at Cheltenham Leisure Centre, with Mitchell clocking 2:13.98, which ranked her second.
Denton clocked 2:26.82, which was eighth fastest time.
However, it was the combined laser-shoot and run discipline, which was held at Hartpury College, which decided the medal placings.
Denton produced a stunning performance to produce the quickest time of the day at 10:56.50, which moved her up from eighth into the top three.
Mitchell, who recently finished fifth at the GB Youth International in Solihull, was not far behind with a time of 11:00.67 to take overall gold.
The next under-17 ranking competition will be part of the British Modern Tetrathlon Championships April 22-23.
