Watling and Allison impress in final Armada Winter 3k Series run

PLYMOUTH student Dan Watling won the final Armada Winter 3k Series run of the 2016/17 season on Wednesday night at Central Park.

It was the first time the Birchfield Harrier had triumphed in one of the Armada Network’s monthly series races.

Watling, who had finished third in February’s run, clocked nine minutes and 55 seconds on Wednesday, which was 25 seconds faster than he had previously recorded for the course.

Erme Valley Harriers teenager Nathan Brown, who won December’s race, was second this time around in 10.12.

Jacob Pierpoint was third in 10.27, Plymouth Harriers’ Steve Fletcher was fourth in 10.32 and Erme Valley youngster Sam Yearling was fifth in 10.37.

Plymouth Harriers’ Jane Allison was comfortably the first women home on Wednesday evening, clocking a time of 11.45 minutes.

University of Plymouth’s Phoebe Baker was second in 12.23 and Plymouth Tri Club’s Nicola Noble was third in 12.36.

An impressive 162 runners finished the run, which completed the six-race series.

Next month, the Armada Summer 5k Series starts at Saltram Park. The first run will be on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 7pm.
