IVYBRIDGE Community College judo star Lewis Widdicombe is looking forward to competing for England at the International Bremen Cup in Germany this month.
Widdicombe recently got a taste of international judo at the Cadet European Cup event in Fuengirola, Spain.
England combined that competition in the Costa del Sol with a training camp.
Widdicombe, who is the first South Brent Judo Club member to represent England at a European judo cup competition, fought in the under-81kg category.
Although he secured the first score in his contest with Norwegian Kornelius Eilertsen he narrowly lost, with his rival going on to reach the last eight.
However, Widdicombe gained a lot from the experience and from the training camp, which he hopes to take into the event in Germany, which attracts judo stars from around the world.
The Bremen competition takes place on March 24/25.
Widdicombe has trained at South Brent Judo Club since the age of six and is grateful for the support and coaching he has received over the years from Steve Squire, Pete Whitfield and Gary Gregory.
