PLYMOUTH Harriers’ Ross Farrer took second place in the annual Oh My Obelisk off-road race.
Farrer finished the tough 11-mile all-terrain event in one hour, 15 minutes and 16 seconds.
He was only beaten by Torbay’s Arran Tocknell, who clocked 1:13.49.
Third athlete home in the hilly event, organised by Dawlish Coasters, was South Devon’s David Hampton. Haldon’s Elizabeth Dyson won the women’s race in an impressive time of 1:21.26.

Meanwhile, Erme Valley Harriers’ Nathan Brown just missed out on reaching the final of the men’s under-20 800m event at the South of England AA Championships at Lee Valley.
Brown finished third in his heat in a time of 1:59.22, with the two athletes ahead of him progressing to the final.
At the latest Cardiff Met Grand Prix, which was doubling as the South West senior and masters’ championships, Tavistock’s Jade Kinsey clocked 64.56 seconds for the 400m and 8.43 seconds for the 60m, Holly Kinsey (U20) clocked 8.42 seconds for the 60m and fellow under-20 team-mate Jenny Milburn ran 2:22.85 for the 800m. City of Plymouth’s Matthew Gilbert finished with 1.75m in the high jump.
