Plymouth College and Mount Kelly College impress at ESSA Relay Champs

PLYMOUTH College and Mount Kelly College both impressed at the English Schools’ Swimming Association Team Relay Championships at the London Aquatics Centre.

Plymouth College claimed eight medals, including three golds, at the 12-race event, while Mount Kelly collected six medals.

The freestyle relays provided Plymouth College with their three titles. Their senior girls’ 200m freestyle team claimed their first gold, winning in a record time of 1:45.37. Mount Kelly took third in the same event.

Plymouth College’s senior boys also won over the same distance in 1:35.20, while their intermediate boys’ freestyle team also triumphed in 1:43.40.

The city-based school also took three silvers and two bronze medals.

Their silvers came in the senior boys’ 200m medley, the intermediate boys’ 200m medley and the inter girls’ 200m medley, while their third-places came in the intermediate girls’ 200m freestyle and senior girls’ 200m medley.

In both the latter two races, Mount Kelly finished second. The Tavistock-based school also won silver in the junior boys’ 200m medley.

As well as three silvers, Mount Kelly also took three bronzes – in the senior girls’ freestyle, the senior boys’ medley and the junior boys’ medley.

The South West region dominated the event, with Somerset-based Millfield winning 12 medals.

Ivybridge also qualified for the national event and reach four finals – the intermediate boys’ medley, the junior girls’ medley, the intermediate girls’ medley and the intermediate boys’ freestyle.
