DEVONPORT Services have 14 girls named in Devon’s under-18 and under-15 squads to take on Cornwall at Wessex on Sunday.
Chloe Dawe, Jess Thomas, Alice Mills-Hicks, Megan Heath, Lizzie Cole, Megan Musgrave, Daisy French, Molly Hann, Beth Nicholls, Faye Robinson and Boo Berry all feature in the under-18 set-up, with Isobel Munton, Morwenna Dunstan and Phoebe Bishop in the under-15 side.
The under-15 squad also includes Plymstock Albion Oaks’ Alex Knapman and Tavistock’s Jemima Cameron.
Devon’s under-15s will be up first at Wessex. They play Cornwall at 12.30pm, with the under-18s playing at 2pm.
The under-15s are coached by Tavistock men’s first team coach Hammy Kerswill.
Kerswill has been working with the county girls’ side for a number of years now but he says he has been particularly impressed with the standard this season.
“The standard of girls’ rugby has improved drastically over the last few seasons,” said Kerswill.
“In previous years, despite it being county training, we have had to work a lot around the basics and laws of the game. But this season has seen the selected girls’ knowledge of the game exponentially better. This has led to us taking a more skills-based approach to training with the girls more responsive and inquistive to the improvement of their game. They are a joy to coach.”
