PLYMOUTH Leander’s Ben Proud continued his impressive FINA World Cup series form in Doha.

Just days after collecting medals in the Dubai and Beijing legs, Proud added two more silvers in the Qatar capital.

Proud’s successes came in the 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle events, where he is reigning Commonwealth Games champion.

He clocked a quick 22.57 seconds for the short course butterfly final. He was only beaten by South African star Chad Le Clos, who won in 22.36 seconds. Japan’s Takeshi Kawamoto was third in 22.62.

Proud had also won silver medals in the sprint butterfly event in Dubai mid-week and Beijing the weekend before but his time in Doha was faster and not far off is British short course record.

The University of St Mark and St John student then took second in the 50m freestyle in a time of 21.22 seconds. He was only beaten by Russian Vladimir Morozov, who won in 21.05. Le Clos was third in 21.34.

Proud also reached the final of the 100m in Doha, where he finished sixth in 48.84 seconds.
