Bedford to make his Exmouth debut against former club Albion

Tom Bedford

TOM BEDFORD will make his Exmouth debut against his former club Plymouth Albion on Tuesday night at the Imperial Ground (7pm).

The experienced centre left Albion in the summer after failing to agree a new deal at Brickfields, despite featuring in every match for the club in National One last term.

The former Exeter, Newcastle, Bedford and Cornish Pirates back will play in the second half for the Cockles on Tuesday evening, with the home team naming two different line-ups for each period.

Also in Exmouth’s second half team will be flanker Ben Hawley, who had a brief spell at Albion at the start of last season, and Marjon lock Matt Handford, who trained at Brickfields last term.

Exmouth’s first half side will include flanker James Harris, who played for Plymouth during the 2011/12 season.

Lock Jim Massey, who has just signed for Exmouth from Albion, is unavailable due to injury.

Exmouth, with Altan Ozdemir as their scrum coach, are now just one division below Plymouth, having won promotion to National Two South in April.

Their head coach Jon Hill said: “In all honesty his game is a little early for us as we started training a week later than normal due to county rugby commitments. That said, the opportunity to play against higher level opposition is a great test for us and we hope to welcome a good crowd to the Imperial Ground.

“We have split up the squads and will use the pre-season programme to look at a few combinations.

“With another game this coming Friday at home to Launceston, we will limit each player to 40 minutes approximately.”

Albion could include former Exmouth players Dan Powell and Dan Pullinger in their squad.

Admission into the Imperial Ground is £2.
