PLYMOUTH Corinthians’ Mike Rogers took his first ever victory with a sprint finish at the Torbay Velopark.
Competing in the fourth category event, Rogers and team-mate Mike Lewis took on riders from across the South West region in the one hour competition.
After a few weeks of racing at Torbay some faces were starting to become familiar and Rogers used this experience to mark attacks at the front.
On a windy evening several solo attacks were made but were quickly nullified by the 30 strong peloton.
The pace was picked up with three laps to go with riders jostling for positions.
Rogers played it cool and gradually moved up before making a daring jump coming into the final hairpin which placed him perfectly in second wheel for the sprint.
Conscious not to open his sprint too early Rogers held off briefly before coming around a Mid Devon CC rival and held the bunch off to cross the line for his first road win.
Joe Monk (Exeter Wheelers) and Richard Whitehouse (Bike Chain Ricci) rounded out the
podium with Corries Mike Lewis also finishing strongly for four place.
