FORMER Plymouth College student John Dawe has spoken of his delight at receiving a call up for the Great Britain team to compete at the World University Rugby Sevens Championships.
The tournament will take place in Swansea this July and will feature teams like Australia, France, Argentina, Italy, Japan and Namibia.
Dawe is reading biomedical science at Cardiff Metropolitan University and plays for the University in the Welsh Championship and in the top tier of the BUCS League.
The 23-year-old played in the same Plymouth College team as Henry Slade and helped the school reach the quarter-finals of the Daily Mail Cup.
“I’m over the moon about the selection for GB student 7s,” said Dawe.
“To represent my county is such an honour. I loved playing rugby at school. Everything I learned, from skills to team work, has helped to make me the player I am today.”
