Devils pick up an away point at Redcar in narrow Premier League defeat

Devils arenaPLYMOUTH Devils collected a consolation away point from their 47-43 Premier League defeat at Redcar on Thursday evening.

In fact, the Devils raised hopes of pulling off an away win as they stormed into a six-point lead after the first three of heats.

But, after providing the winners of the first three heats through guest Steve Worrall, reserve Stefan Nielsen and acting skipper Todd Kurtz, the Devils managed only one more race winner in Sam Simota from the remaining 12 heats.

Even so, the scores were level at 42-42 going into the last heat decider in which the home pair Hugh Skidmore and David Bellego took a crucial 5-1 win against Jack Holder and Simota.

Plymouth are due to have an unchanged side on Friday evening for the first leg of their Knock-Out Cup first round tie away to Edinburgh. A similar score against the Monarchs would leave the tie perfectly balanced for the deciding leg at the St Boniface Arena on Saturday evening.

Redcar: Lasse Bjerre 1 (4 rides), Jacob Buckhave 2 (3), Hugh Skidmore 10+2 (5), Jonas B Andersen 9 (4), David Bellego 15 (5). Reserves: Simon Nielsen 2 (3), Lee Payne 8+1 (6).

Plymouth: Steve Worrall 6+1 (4), rider replacement for Kyle Newman, Jack Holder 8 (5), Todd Kurtz 9+3 (5), Sam Simota 8 (6). Reserves: Stefan Nielsen 12+4 (7), Ellis Perks 0 (3).
