CITY of Plymouth’s Victoria Weir produced two lifetime best performances for Team DC in the opening UK Youth Development League meeting at Brickfields.
Weir clocked a storming 5:01.92 minutes to win the under-20 women’s 1,500m steeplechase. Not only was it a personal best but it also puts her second in the UK rankings.
She also ran 9.41.46 to claim victory in the 3,000m which ranks her fifth in the country in that event – one place above club team-mate Poppy Tank.
Weir’s victories helped the combined team of Devon and Cornwall athletes to second place in the Midland’s Premier South West section meet, behind Team Avon.
There was also impressive displays from Weir’s City of Plymouth team-mates Jade Simson and Erin Spiller and Erme Valley’s Nathan Brown.
Simson (pictured left) took victory in the under-20 women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 14.82, which was just two hundredths of a second outside her PB.
She also just missed out on a lifetime best in the 100m flat. She clocked 12.78 seconds for that race to finish second. That was just one hundredth of a second off her previous best.
Simson showed her versatility by winning the women’s under-20 B shot putt with a distance of 8.35m.
Spiller took individual victories in both the under-17 100m and 200m races. She clocked 12.75 seconds for the 100m and 26.58 for the 200m.
Brown comfortably took victory in the under-20 men’s 800m in 2:03.87. He also won the B 400m in 55.05 seconds.
