Meilutyte heads a Leander team competing at Stockholm Open

OLYMPIC champion Ruta Meilutyte heads a team of international Plymouth Leander swimmers who have flown out to Sweden to compete in the Stockholm Open.

Leander’s British stars are resting ahead of the Olympic trials, which take place in Glasgow between April 12 and 17.

Leander swimmers competing in Stockholm include Meilutyte, fellow Lithuanian Mindaugas Sadauskas, Dutch star Moniek Nijuis, Belgium’s Juliette Casini, South Africans Savanna Best and Caroux de Lange, Jamaican masters sprint star Masai Zebechaka, Israel’s Yael Danieli, Estonia’s Kregor Zirk, Seychelles’ Felicity Passon and Malta’s Matthew Zamitt.

Meilutyte and Nijuis will both compete in the 50m and 100m breaststroke events, where they are ranked first and third.

The competition gets underway on Wednesday with Casini the first Leander swimmer in action when she takes part in the 200m freestyle event.

The meet finishes on Saturday, which will see the women’s 100m breaststroke event.
