PLYMOUTH Diving’s Iris Schmidbauer will compete at the FINA High Diving World Cup on Sunday in Abu Dhabi.
Schmidbauer, representing Germany, is one of just two Europeans women who will line up in the opening two rounds of the top competition, held at the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club.
The women’s event will see competitors leap from a 20-metre platform, which is double the height of the Olympic platform events.
Schmidbauer, 20, started competing in cliff diving in 2014 before moving to Plymouth to train at the Life Centre and to study sports therapy and injury rehabilitation at City College.
Great Britain do not have any women competitors this weekend, but they are represented in the men’s event by Gary Hunt and Tom Daley’s 2008 Olympic synchro partner Blake Aldridge. The men dive from 27-metres.
