Plymouth Diving enjoy successful start to Armada Cup

HOST club Plymouth Diving enjoyed a successful opening day at the Armada Cup.

Plymouth claimed victories in all four junior springboard synchro finals on Saturday and topped both the men’s and women’s platform preliminaries.

Victoria Vincent and Kayleigh Sinclair won the 14-18 year-old’s three-metre synchro final.

The duo were well ahead of the rest of the field, scoring 222.99 points, with Sheffield’s Molly Bulmer and Rhian Humpage second with 201.48.

Connor West and Aidan Heslop matched their achievement in the boys’ 14-18 three-metre final. They scored 223.98 points to take gold ahead of Edinburgh’s Aaron Daly and Lucas Thomson (207.54)

Plymouth’s Owen Weymouth and Alex Kostov just missed out of a medal finishing fourth with 200.79.

In the boys’ under-13 one-metre synchro final, Euan McCabe and Oscar Piper triumphed, while Frances Burdett and Summer Radcliffe won the girls’ event in this age group.

Commonwealth Games star Matthew Dixon was well ahead of his rivals in the over-16 men’s platform prelims. He scored 370.75, with Sheffield’s Elliot Beeden qualifying second (317.95) and Dixon’s Plymouth team-mate Owen Weymouth third (293.30).

Shanice Lobb topped the women’s platform prelims with 320.70 ahead of team-mate Robyn Birch (286.40). Iris Schmidbauer was seventh in the prelims with 173.30.

The Armada Cup, one of the top age group diving competitions in the country, continues at the Life Centre until Tuesday.
