Britain’s best up-and-coming divers head to Plymouth for Armada Cup

SOME of the best up-and-coming divers in Britain will be on show at the Life Centre in the next few days as the city venue hosts the annual Armada Cup.

The popular age group competition, which attracts clubs and divers from all around the UK and sometimes even further afield, starts on Saturday and runs through to Tuesday afternoon.

Matthew Dixon 2Among the athletes taking part will be Plymouth’s Commonwealth Games stars Matthew Dixon (pictured) and Victoria Vincent and fellow city international Shanice Lobb, who competed at last summer’s inaugural European Games.

Unfortunately, senior GB internationals Tonia Couch, Sarah Barrow, Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow have to miss the city event as they are in Brazil preparing for the FINA World Cup where Olympic quota places are up for grabs.

Couch and Barrow compete in the women’s platform synchro event in Rio next Friday (February 19).

The men’s synchro, featuring Daley and Goodfellow, will take place on February 20 and 21.

Couch and Daley have already qualified Great Britain an individual platform spot by reaching last year’s World Championship final.
