ERME Valley Harriers athletes Nathan Brown and Cleo Perry enjoyed good performances in the fourth Frank Elford Sports Westward Cross Country League meet of the season at Westward Ho!.

IMG_4042On an extremely wet course, which took competitors across the waterlogged Northam Burrows, Brown took second in the under-17 boys’ race in a time of 20.25 minutes. Newquay’s Aiden Kent was first home in 20.02, with City of Plymouth’s Tom Blackford fourth in 22.00.

Perry was second in the senior women’s race and first over-40, finishing in a time of 23.00. Cornwall’s over-45 veteran athlete Emma Stepto won in 22.41.

City of Plymouth’s Hannah Blair was third senior women home in 23.06 and Plymouth Harriers’ Ami Yetton eighth in 23.56.

The women’s race was run with the under-17 age groups. Newquay’s Sian Temple was first under-17 female home in 22.56.

There were also top three finishes for City of Plymouth’s Elena Sidman and Jamie Williams and Tavistock’s Kristyna Cade.

Sidman was third in the under-15 girls’ race, which was won by Cornwall’s Grace Brock. Tavistock’s Natasha Farrington was fourth in that event and her team-mate Sarah Bull sixth.

Williams was third in the under-15 boys’ competition – a race won by Newquay’s James Greenwood. Erme Valley’s Joe Perry was seventh in that age group at the Westward Ho! venue.

Cade was third in the under-11 girls’ category. That age group had to endure the worst of the weather in north Devon on Sunday, with a thunder storm taking place just before they ran. Cornwall’s Maisy Luke continued to dominate that age group, like her team-mate Zak Clemens did in the under-11 boys’ category.

Tavistock’s Tilly McDowell claimed fourth place in the under-13 girls’ race, which was won by East Cornwall’s Charlotte Hicks. City of Plymouth’s Kate Philips was seventh.

The senior men’s race was once again dominated by Bideford, with Mark Jenkin winning in 31.05 ahead of his team-mates Adam Richmond, who took second in 31.12, and Shaun Antell in fourth in 32.44

Plymouth Harriers’ Chris Rimmer had a good run, finishing seventh in 33.02.

The fifth and penultimate leg of the league takes place at Stover on February 14.
