MORE than 500 runners are expected to descend on Plymouth’s Central Park on Sunday for the opening event in the Frank Elford Sports Westward League.

The league consists of six meetings held once a month around Devon and Cornwall.

The other venues are Newquay (November 8), Exeter (December 6), Westward Ho! (January 10), Stover (February 14) and Redruth (March 20).

Sunday’s event starts at 12.15pm with the under-11 girls and boys.  That will be followed at 12.30pm by the under-17 men and women and senior women. The under-13 girls will go next at 1.10pm, with the same age group boys starting at 1.30pm. At 1.50pm the under-15 boys and girls will race and finally the last race at 2.10pm will be the senior men, who run 8,600m.
