TAVISTOCK’S Neil Barkell was first home in August’s Armada Summer 5k Series race at Saltram Park.
The event, the fifth of six runs around the National Trust grounds, was well down on numbers due to Wednesday’s poor weather and a clash with the National Firework Championships.
However, the race produced a good finish with three runners finishing within 11 seconds of each other.
Barkell, second in June’s race behind Jonny Gilby, claimed his first win of the series, finishing five seconds ahead of Tamar Trotters’ Pete Waumsley. Barkell clocked a time of 16 minutes and 58 seconds, with Waumsley coming home in 17.03.
Plymouth Harriers’ Jordan Andrew was third back in 17.09.
Fin Saunders held off the challenge of Plymouth Harriers’ John Cooper for fourth. Saunders clocked 17.19 and fifth-placed Cooper 17.21. Erme Valley’s Allister Bristow was sixth in 17.26.
Bristow’s club team-mate Cloe Perry was first women home for a second consecutive month with a time of 19.53.
Plymouth Musketeers’ Kirsty Ireland was second in 23.26 and Erme Valley’s Linda Bracher third in 24.42.
