Argyle boss Adams expects bumper crowd for Dockyard Derby

PLYMOUTH Argyle manager Derek Adams is looking forward to experiencing his first Dockyard Derby on Saturday.

The Pilgrims entertain title favourites Portsmouth at Home Park with a bumper crowd expected for the League Two clash

Adams’ side have made an encouraging start to the season, winning their opening league match at AFC Wimbledon 2-0 last Saturday and narrowly losing 2-1 to League One side Gillingham on Tuesday night in the Capital One Cup.

However, ambitious Portsmouth will arrive on a high after beating Dagenham & Redbridge 3-0 in their first league game and then knocking Championship side Derby County out of the cup with a 2-1 win.

Adams believes Pompey are favourites for promotion after bringing in a host of players over the summer, but he is hoping his Argyle team can overcome them.

And he is expecting a big crowd at Home Park to try and see his team do that.

“There is very good rivalry (between the two clubs) and you want that in any football match,” said Adams.

“It’s great the two cities – and dockyards – have that and we are expecting a very big crowd on Saturday.

“I’m looking forward to it. Derby matches are always good. I was involved in them for many years in Scotland.”

Argyle will be without summer signing Jake Jervis, who had to go off early in the game against Gillingham due to a groin injury.
