PLYMOUTH Argyle opened their season in style with a 2-0 away victory at AFC Wimbledon.
Summer signings Gregg Wylde and Graham Carey scored the Pilgrims’ goals as they claimed their first opening day win in five years.
AFC Wimbledon, who will be Argyle’s opponents in the JP Trophy, dominated most of the first half, but against the run of play, Derek Adams’ team took the lead on 40 minutes with a great left-footed volley from Wylde.
That became 2-0 four minutes after the break when a Carey 25-yard blaster was deflected into the net.
Argyle then turned on the style but could not add to their tally.
However, manager Adams was more than delighted to get his Argyle league career off to a winning start.
“It was a very good start for us,” said Adams. “It’s a tough game, coming to Wimbledon and to come away from home. You want to get up and running as quickly as possible, and we’ve been able to do that away from home.”
