Ben Proud reaches his second World Championship final in Kazan

PLYMOUTH Leander’s Ben Proud has reached his second World Championship final in Kazan.

Having competed in the 50m butterfly medal race earlier in the week, Proud will swim the 50m freestyle final on Saturday night.

The 20-year-old eased through the morning’s heats with a time of 22.13 seconds before producing an impressive semi-final display.

Commonwealth Games champion Proud touched in 21.88 to qualify fifth fastest for the final. His time was not far of his British record of 21.76.

“I’m really happy to get through to the final,” said Proud. “I was not expecting to, but now I have hopefully I can get close to my PB.”
