Bierton produces four-star showing as Armada claim South West Cup

JENNA BIERTON won four separate events to help the Armada Athletics Network to victory at the South West League Combined Cup competition at Exeter.

The City of Plymouth athlete triumphed in the women’s 100m hurdles (15.51 seconds), high jump (1.50 metres), triple jump (10.36m) and long jump (4.90m).

Erme Valley Harriers’ Nathan Brown and Plymouth’s Emily Bee and Mia O’Daly also won more than one event as Armada finished 28 points ahead of their nearest rivals.

Armada scored 548 points in total, with Taunton AC second on 520 and Yeovil Olympiads third with 473.

Bee, competing in the under-15s, won the 75m hurdles in a new personal best of 12.04 seconds and the long jump with a leap of 4.95m.

Fellow under-15 O’Daly triumphed in both the spot putt (9.49m) and discus (26.91m), while under-17 athlete Brown claimed victories in the 200m (24.30 seconds) and his main event the 800m (2:04.85).

There was also 800m success for Tavistock’s Josh Blake and Alice Rogers. Blake came first in the under-20 two-lap race in 1:57.39, while Rogers won the women’s event in 2:30.87.

Armada claimed two 3,000m successes, with Plymouth’s Matthew Bradley powering to victory in the senior men’s competition (9:21.89) and Tavistock’s Will Dax triumphing in the under-20s (9:52.67).

Among the other winners for Armada were Matthew Gilbert in the men’s high jump (1.88m), Graham Reed in the long jump (5.32m) and the under-15 girls’ 4x100m relay team.

There were also personal bests and second-placed finishes for Tavistock’s Jenny Milburn in the under-15 girls’ 1,500m (4:50.86) and Oliver Woodmason in the under-13 boys’ race at the same distance (5:06.44).
