PLYMOUTH water polo player Beth Ward and her Great Britain team-mates endured a tough opening to the inaugural European Games in Baku.
Great Britain were beaten 20-2 by favourites Greece in their opening match of the tournament.
Devonport Royal’s Ward (pictured above in action in Baku) played her part in the Group A game, with GB’s goals coming from Danica Brazier.
The team will be hoping to hit back in their matches against Netherlands, Hungary, Germany and Israel.
GB coach Nick Buller did praise his team’s spirit against European junior and under-19 champions Greece.
He said: “This was what we expected from previous tournaments. It was tough, but I was proud with how they kept going.”
