PLYMOUTH Leander swimmer Ben Proud capped a successful Mare Nostrum Series in Barcelona with a bronze medal in the men’s 50m freestyle event.
The double Commonwealth Games champion added the bronze to the gold he had won the day before in the 50m butterfly final.
Proud, competing for Great Britain, clocked 22.40 seconds for the one-length free event, with Japan’s Katsumi Nakamura winning in 22.30 and Poland’s Konrad Czerniak second in 22.34.
British swimmers were using the Mare Nostrum Series as preparation for this summer’s World Championships in Kazan.
Proud’s Plymouth Leander team-mates Ruta Meilutyte and Mindaugas Sadauskas will continue their build-up this weekend at the Setti Colli international meet in Rome.
