City diver cannot wait for European Games after kitting out day

PLYMOUTH diver Shanice Lobb says she cannot wait to compete at next month’s inaugural European Games after receiving her Great Britain kit.

Lobb is one of a host of Plymouth athletes heading to the event in Baku.

She is joined in the Team GB squad by her cousin and fellow diver Matthew Dixon, water polo player Beh Ward, swimmers Tom Fannon, Joe Hulme and Laura Stephens and fencer Corinna Lawrence.

Also heading to Baku is fellow city diver Natasha MacManus, who will represent Ireland in the one-metre, three-metre and platform events in Azerbaijan.

The British athletes have been attending kitting out days this week.

After picking up her kit Lobb tweeted: “What an unbelievable day, got the most amazing @TeamGB kit for the European Games. Can’t wait to compete now.”

Four of the region’s European Games competitors are pupils at Plymouth College – Fannon, Hulme, Stephens and MacManus. MacManus (pictured below) was the last of the four to earn selection.

The college’s deputy head and director of sport Sarah Dunn said of her call-up: “I am delighted for Natasha. What a wonderful experience it will be to dive for her country at such a prestigious event. She has been working really hard and this is a fantastic reward.”
