TAVISTOCK’S Neil Barkell stormed to victory in the Muskies Madne5.5 race.
Barkell was nearly a minute in front of Tamar Trotters’ Peter Waumsley in the race that started and finished at Kings Tamerton Community Centre.
The Tavistock man clocked 26.59 minutes, with second-placed Waumsley coming home in 27.53 minutes.
The times were faster than normal as it was believed some youngsters switched some of the route flags, meaning the course was slightly shortly than in previous years.
However, that did not spoil the day, as a bumper 225 runners complete the Plymouth Musketeers event in glorious weather.
South Devon’s David Hampton was third in 28.14, Teignmouth’s Tim Pratt fourth in 28.55 and Jay Horton fifth in 29.09.
Tamar Trotters’ Rebecca Ezra won the women’s race, coming home in 32.00, which was 10 seconds ahead of Plymouth Harriers’ Jane Allison.
