Plymouth Albion step in to host annual schools’ tag rugby festival

PLYMOUTH Albion’s Brickfields ground will host the annual Plymouth Primary Schools’ Tag Rugby Festival for the first time on Wednesday.

The popular annual event, organised by the Plymouth School Sports Partnership, normally takes place at the University of St Mark and St John.

However, the Derriford-based university was not available this year due to their Rugby World Cup commitments, so Albion have kindly stepped in to fill the void.

The event attracts 48 teams and 500 children from schools all around the region and helps raise money for the Child Victims of Crime.

The top four teams on Wednesday will earn the chance to represent Plymouth at the Devon finals at Topsham on June 10.

Albion’s director of rugby Graham Dawe, whose own children have previously competed in the festival, said: “It’s our pleasure to host this event at Brickfields.”

Organiser Anna Clooke added: “The Plymouth School Sports Partnership is delighted that we are holding this event at Plymouth Albion and would like to thank them for their support.”
