Plymouth Leander’s GB star Ben Proud will compete at Mare Nostrum series

Proud6.jpgPLYMOUTH Leander swimmer Ben Proud will compete at next month’s 2015 Mare Nostrum series in France and Spain.

Great Britain are using the series to prepare for this summer’s World Championships in Kazan.

A team of 42 British swimmers will head to event in Canet, France, over the weekend of June 6-7 before 33, including double Commonwealth Games champion Proud, will travel on to Barcelona for the competition there on June 10-11.

The British squad will go to Canet on the back of a nine-day training camp in Vichy.

British Swimming head coach Bill Burniss said: “This programme of camp and competition offers a great opportunity for athletes and coaches. The entire World Championship team will attend the camp which provides a great opportunity to practice the behaviours that are a priority of the national team going forward.

“It also aligns with the racing strategy for the group as they go into two tough competitions at the Mare Nostrum off the back of a hard week of training at the camp in France.”
