AUSTRALIAN point-guard Josh Wilcher has signed a new contract with Plymouth Raiders.
Wilcher becomes the first player to commit himself to the city BBL side for the 2015/16 season.
The 24-year-old joined Raiders last summer from EBL side Reading Rockets and started every match in the BBL, averaging 14 points, eight assists and four-and-a-half rebounds per game, while averaging 80 per cent from the free throw line.
Victoria-born Wilcher said: “I’m really looking forward to coming back to Plymouth again. I loved the people I have met, and really enjoyed playing in front of the best fans in the league at the Plymouth Pavilions.
“I can’t wait to get back again. I know this is a place where we can have success and looking to have that next season.”
Raiders coach Jay Marriott said: “I’m delighted that we have managed to get Josh back, he was my first signing this past season and I’m really happy we will be working together for a second season.
“We have a strong coach/player relationship and at your point guard spot you couldn’t ask for more. The challenge this season was to show everyone he belonged at this level, the pressure will now be to take his performances to the next level and help us get back into the top six.”
Wilcher returns home to Australia in a couple of weeks to play with the Bendigo in Australia’s SEABL league. He will be there until the middle of August when he will return to Plymouth for pre-season.
