Big weekend for Ivybridge, Saltash and Plymouth Argaum

ballIT COULD be a momentous weekend for rugby sides Ivybridge, Saltash and Plymouth Argaum.

Saltash and Argaum could confirm promotion for their respective leagues, while Ivybridge could virtually guarantee runners-up spot in South West One if they beat Bridgwater at Cross-in-Hand on Saturday (2.30pm).

Ivybridge sit second in South West One, six points ahead of their opponents this weekend, Bridgwater.

A victory for the Bridgers could leave them up to 11 points clear of third with just three matches to play.

Finishing as runners-up would give the South Hams side a chance of promotion to National Three South West via the play-offs.

Saltash, meanwhile, seem certain for promotion from Cornwall/Devon League to Western Counties West.

They sit top, level on points with second-placed Crediton, but 17 ahead of third-placed Withycombe.

If Saltash beat second-from-bottom South Molton at Moorlands Lane on Saturday or Withycombe fail to win then the Ashes will be promoted.

Argaum could confirm their place in next season’s Cornwall/Devon League this weekend.

Dave Sansom’s side will win a second successive league title if they claim victory at struggling neighbours Old Techs and Plymstock Albion Oaks fail to beat fourth-placed Wessex at Horsham Fields.

Argaum are currently eight points clear of second-placed Oaks with just three matches to play.

Third-placed St Columba & Torpoint still have hopes of sneaking second spot and a play-off place. They are only five points behind Oaks. St Columba travel to New Cross on Saturday.

In Western Counties West, Tavistock must beat Sidmouth away to realistically have any hope of staying up.

The league’s bottom side are three points off St Ives, seven behind Wellington and eight adrift of Torquay with just four games to go.

Tavistock will be hoping neighbours Devonport Services can do them a favour when the city side travel to Torquay.
