GALLERY & VIDEO: Luke Hayes and Nikki Bond storm to victories at the popular Ivybridge 10k race

ERME Valley Harriers youngster Luke Hayes and Tavistock AC’s Nikki Bond claimed victories at the popular Ivybridge 10k race in hot conditions on Saturday evening.

Bond set a new women’s course record, while Hayes became the first Erme Valley athlete to win the race since Great Britain international Will Battershill claimed victory in the 2016 event.

Under-18 athlete Hayes took victory by more than a minute, coming home in 34 minutes and eight seconds.

Second place went to Lloyd Milbourn, who locked 35.29 minutes.

Bond (nee Kelly), came third overall in a quick time of 36.08 minutes, which broke Bex Ezra-Ham’s course record of 36.33 minutes, which was achieved three years ago.

Plymstock Road Runners’ Brett Jones was fourth overall, third man and first M45 in 36.27 minutes, while Tavistock’s Sam Hortopp was fifth overall and fourth man in 36.36 minutes.

City of Plymouth’s Steve Hill was fifth man and first M50 in 37.03 minutes, with 2012 winner Peter Monaghan sixth man and first M60 in 37.23 minutes.

Storm’s Lauren Knox and a good run and came eighth overall and second woman in 37.54 minutes.

Alice Warwick-Jones was third woman in 40.23 minutes, with Looe Pioneers’ Joanne Robinson fourth and first F45 in 42.35 and University of Plymouth’s Rebecca Kealy fifth woman in 42.57 minutes.

Tavistock’s Nicola Noble was first F35, with Plymouth Harriers’ Michelle Cartlidge first F40, Storm’s Catherine Brown first F50 and team-mate Deborah Cornish first 55, while Tamar Trotters’ Jane Brenmer won the F60 age category.

Tavistock AC’s Grant Harvey was first M40, while Plymouth Harriers’ Andrew Marshall took victory in the M65 category.

Erme Valley Harriers, who organise the race, won the men’s team event ahead of Plymouth Harriers, while Storm Plymouth took the women’s team honours ahead of Tavistock AC.

Some 510 runners finished the race, which started at the town’s railway station and finished at Ivybridge Rugby Club.
