PLYMSTOCK Oaks RFC hosted an ‘unforgettable’ evening on Monday as the Community Rugby Trophy Tour brought the Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy to the club.
The event saw 85 enthusiastic girls from across Plymouth and the surrounding areas come together for a fun, non‑contact rugby session designed to celebrate participation, team-work and the joy of the sport.
The pitch was alive with energy as players of all ages and experience levels took part in skills, games and activities led by Oaks’ dedicated coaching team.
The visit of the iconic trophy added an extra layer of excitement, giving young players the chance to see up close the prize that represents the pinnacle of women’s rugby.
For many, it was their first time being so close to a piece of sporting history and the smiles said it all.
Conor Thomson, head girls’ coach at Plymstock Oaks RFC, said: “This event was all about inspiring the next generation. Seeing so many girls enjoying themselves and embracing the sport is exactly what community rugby is about. We’re incredibly proud to have hosted the trophy and to support the growth of girls’ rugby in our area.”
The club extended their thanks to the volunteers who helped the event run smoothly, as well as to England Rugby for bringing the trophy to Plymouth and supporting grassroots development.
Plymstock Oaks continues to expand its girls’ rugby programme and welcomes new players.
