GALLERY: Dartmoor Velo youngsters impress as Newnham Park hosts opening National MTB Cross Country Series event

TOP mountain bikers from around the country descended on Plympton’s Newnham Park on Sunday for the opening round of the Lloyds National MTB Cross Country Series.

And Dartmoor Velo youngsters certainly made their mark at the two-day event, claiming five podium finishes.

Bryany Medland claimed victory in the juvenile female race on the Sunday, having finished second in the joint juvenile/youth short course race the day before.

Samuel Medland also picked up two medals. He finished second in the juvenile male race on the Sunday and claimed bronze in the joint juvenile/youth short course event on the Saturday.

Fellow Dartmoor Velo rider Aoife Scawn won silver in the youth female race on the Sunday.

The men’s elite senior event was won by Max Greensill, who held off the challenge of Devon’s Max Standen, while the women’s elite senior race saw Evie Strachan win ahead of Bethany-Ann Jackson.
