THE Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy will be visiting Plymstock Oaks RFC on Monday evening.
The visit forms part of the nationwide Community Rugby Trophy Tour, designed to inspire the next generation of players and celebrate the growth of the women’s game.
The trophy, won by England last year, will be on display at Horsham Fields from 5pm until 6:45pm, with the event free and open to the public.
Families, players, and rugby fans across Plymouth are invited to attend and enjoy a rare opportunity to see the iconic trophy up close and capture a commemorative photo.
To mark the occasion, Plymstock Oaks RFC will host a girls’ non-contact rugby session from 5:30-6:30pm for ages six to 14, offering young girls the chance to step onto the pitch themselves — many for the first time.
The session will be led by qualified coaches and is open to all abilities.
No membership or previous rugby experience is required. Participants will also receive an exclusive photo opportunity with the Women’s Rugby World Cup, making the evening a memorable introduction to the sport.
Oaks say the event reflects their long-term commitment to growing the girls’ game, increasing participation, and ensuring that local girls have accessible, welcoming pathways into rugby.
Conor Thomson, head girls’ coach for Plymstock Oaks RFC said: “Hosting the Women’s Rugby World Cup Trophy is an incredible honour for our club and community.
“We hope this moment inspires young girls across Plymouth. We want every girl to feel like Rugby is an inclusive sport, helping develop self-confidence, a genuine feeling of belonging, making friendships and discovering what girls are capable of. Most importantly having fun!”.
Parents and guardians can register their child for the free girls’ session via the online sign up form: https://forms.gle/4LWiKkhJ2HscZERt9
