STORM Plymouth’s Charlene Matthews powered to victory at the popular Looe 10 Miler on Sunday.
Matthews dominated the women’s race to win by six minutes.
She clocked 1:11.39 for the tough course in damp and windy conditions.
Second woman home was Newquay’s Rose Harvie, who finished in 1:17.34. Third woman as St Austell’s Clare Dale.
Tamar Trotters’ Luke Attwood finished third in the men’s race, which was again won by Truro’s Steve Reynolds.
Reynolds secured victory in a time of 58.46 minutes, which was quicker than the time he ran last year and in 2023 when he also claimed the titles.
Second place went to Wadebridge’s Matt Hawcroft, who finished in 1:04.27, with Attwood just four seconds behind in 1:04.31.
Erme Valley Harriers’ Alison Engledew convincingly won her F65 age group, while there were second place age group prizes for Plymouth Falconers’ Sue Bayes (F55), Erme Valley’s Stuart Witty (M55) and Tamar Trotters’ Richard Morton (M70), while Plymstock Road Runners’ Jenny Orr (F60), Plymouth Musketeers’ Lee Herbert (M45) and Plymouth Harriers’ Richard Bowen (M60) claimed third place finishes in their categories.
An impressive 637 people finished the race, which is organised by Looe Pioneers, and takes runners from the Millpool Car Park in Looe along the coastal road to Talland and around Killigarth and Porthallow before heading back to the start.
This year there were a large contingent of athletes from Clapham Pioneers, who won the women’s team title.
