MICHAELLA ROBERTS scored five tries and Charleigh Hopkin four as Ivybridge continued their pace at the top of the Women’s Championship South West Two table with a 72-12 home victory over Reading Abbey on Sunday.
The unbeaten Bridgers managed 11 tries in total, with most coming in the opening 20 minutes and final 20 minutes of the match at Cross-in-Hand.
In the middle of the game, second-from-bottom Reading Abbey decided to go to a pick-and-go game to try and starve Ivybridge of the ball.
The visitors did stem Ivybridge’s scoring flow for a lengthy period of time and did get two tries themselves.
However, Ivybridge kept their patience and they were rewarded with five tries in the final 10 minutes.
Roberts was always a threat from number eight with her strong running, while winger Hopkin showed her pace whenever she got the ball.
There were also tries for centre Chloe Huxter and youngster Sophie Gilvear.
Centre Beth Plumpton kicked eight conversions to take her tally for the season to 167 points, while Amy Bunt made her 50th appearance for the club.
Ivybridge will continue their title push next weekend when they visit Devon rivals Cullompton.
